Subject: Marina Residence Rentals
Date sent: Wed, 3 Sep 2008
From: "Mcdonald, Eric C"

Judy,

Just to throw a little gas on the fire, the Marina Residences are
renting rooms with the following rates - $399 for five nights, $50
each additional night and $849 for two weeks if your stay is
between now and December 20th. I know it's promotional, but it's
disheartening that I was made aware of this offer from friends
that rented at the Marina Residences but are not owners and second,
owners of the older units (such as myself) can't rent a room for less
than $250 a night. I'll end up staying at the Atrium for my extra nights
next year unless someone get's their head out of their you know
what and fixes the pricing at the Pelican. This needs to get
rectified soon.  Eric McDonald

Hi Judy,
I am not sure if you know this news yet, but would please add
this to your next e-mail. Thanks, we will skype chat when I see
you online next time. Cheers, Kathy

To All the many Pelican friends that I have met over the years,
I would just like to let you know that I have left the social
activities program at the Pelican. In January, I became engaged
to a great Australian man named Bill. We plan to marry in Feb.
09. He works on an ocean oil rig in Indonesian 28 days on and 28
days off. We have been traveling the 28 days that he has off. So
far this year we have been to Italy, Australia, Canada and Bali
with many more trips planned.
For now, our base is still in Sint Maarten, so I will be there
when Bill is working. I would just like to say I am very happy
to have had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people
over the years. I would like to say thank you for your support,
kindness and friendship to both Joshua and myself. We would like
to stay in touch, so please feel free to contact me and I will
send updates of where Bill and I are traveling or contact me
when I am in Sint Maarten. kathysingular@yahoo.com

Hi,
Just came back from a 2 week stay at the Pelican. I have to
remark at the comments left by some about the $1000.00 per unit
upgrade issue. All I can say is this is a CRAZY idea. We as
older owners have paid supplemental fees, over the years and
still have the same furniture. Being an owner of 5 weeks, I do
not relish the thought of dishing out yet another fee. I am not
thrilled with the older furniture however, if I am going to pay
yet another fee, I am bailing out. Enough is enough. We were
promised as I remember NO MORE FEES for at least 10 years! I
have paid dearly, being one of the owners who already lost their
view, due to the new building. Another FEE, would send me
packing. Abel

Judy...it is rare for me to complain or to even write an opinion
but to have the maintenance billing arrive with the special
assessment could not have been at a worse time for most people.
The economy is in shambles and it may not seem like a large
amount but it will greatly effect the Pelican. People in
droves will choose to walk away rather than pay their Annual
Maintenance, much less the special assessment. The new building
was to be 'the answer' and it is easy to see that this too is a
financial mess. In the words of Oliver Hardy to Stanley Laurel
(i.e. Laurel and Hardy), 'Well Stanley this is another mess
you've gotten us into".......

I guess Royal Resorts, since their claws are so deep in Pelican,
will be there to pick up the pieces and take over the
Pelican...which seems to have been the plan all along.

Have a nice day.

Judy's comment: I hope you understand that prices have gone up
for the Resort as well as they have gone up for the rest of us.
The Resort has to pay bills too, as we do. By putting some of
the much needed funds in a Special Assessment it is money going
directly to the Resort without the 10% management fee.

Subject: 10% AMF increase plus Special Assessment
Date sent: Wed, 24 Sep 2008

Judy,
I have been attempting to find the online minutes of the meeting
during which the decision to increase the AMF and issue a
Special Assessment was made. Please advise me of the link.
I read all of your bulletins, and as you are a board member, I
presumed that you would let your readers know about these things
as they come up, rather than our being very unpleasantly
surprised when we receive our bills. As we are members of the
"Tenants Association", we should be privy to these requests and
we should also be able to voice our opinions prior to their
approval.
I can completely understand the 10% increase, but a very large
Special Assessment to cover maintenance and updating, which
should be covered by the annual maintenance fees, is totally
unexpected and not quite understandable.
Also, the Special Assessment schedule on the back of Jeff Pray's
letter is incorrect. I had to call Interval to find out this
information. I was told to ignore the back of the letter and
that the bill was correct. Not quite the best way to do
business!
I presumed that you have been acting as a liaison between the
board and the owners, but apparently I was in error.
Laurie Behenna

Judy's Comment:

There was a printing error on a few of the bills and a new bill
with the correct information is being sent out. We all worked
very hard to keep the amf down but as you know world conditions
have changed drastically. We could have put the entire amount
we need in a % increase. However as you may not be aware a
special assessment is money that goes directly to the resort and
no fee is paid to the management company.

Subject: Question about Extra Night Rental Rates at
Pelican Resort
Date sent: Tue, 9 Sep 2008

Judy,

I want to tell you that I am an avid reader of your newsletter.
There is a lot of information that helps me to keep up with my
second home while I am away! I hope that you will answer my
email in an upcoming issue.

Why have the rates for extra night rental gone up so sharply?
Last year, for a Sleep 2 studio I paid $105 per night. I called
ISCO yesterday and was told the rate is now $168 per night! I
don’t think that this huge increase is right, especially for
owners who may have to arrive or depart mid-week. Are you able
to answer this question? Can the rates be posted in the
Members’ Only section of the Pelican website. I look forward to
your response.

P.S. The bottom line is that we are taking our extra nights at
another resort. That just doesn’t seem right to me for an owner
of 3 Pelican Weeks.
